兩年一度的環太平洋軍演(RIMPAC)在夏威夷時間6月25日展開，來自23個家國家的47艘軍艦、6艘潛艇將參與演習。這次大陸首度獲邀參與太平洋軍演，並派出4艘軍艦參加演習，最引人注目。

根據大陸新華網報導，載有共1100名官兵的解放軍海軍艦隊，於24日抵達夏威夷的珍珠港。大陸派出4艘船艦包括052C驅逐艦海口號(編號DD 171)、054A巡防艦岳陽號(編號FF 575)、補給艦千島湖號(編號AO 886)、醫療艦和平方舟號(編號T-AH 866)。

解放軍主要參加醫學交流，還有一艘軍艦將參加海上封鎖行動；海上自衛隊則是參加模擬颱風侵襲之後的海上救災任務，並擔任指揮工作。

2014年環太平洋軍演將從台北時間6月26日至8月1日在美國夏威夷海域舉行，包括來自大陸、汶萊、智利、哥倫比亞、法國、印度、印尼、日本、馬來西亞、墨西哥、秘魯、南韓、菲律賓、新加坡、泰國、東加、荷蘭、紐西蘭、挪威與英國等23個國家的47艘軍艦、6潛艇、200多架戰機、2萬5000名官兵參演。
