世界衛生組織官員稱，目前，此輪伊波拉疫情的致死率已經達到70%。

人民網據美聯社報導，世界衛生組織助理總幹事布魯斯•艾爾沃德稱，此輪伊波拉疫情致死率達到70%，伊波拉成為『高死亡率疾病』。他表示，世衛組織仍舊將精力集中在隔離感染者，以及盡早向感染者提供治療上。

根據世衛組織此前公布的資料，此次伊波拉疫情的致死率約為50%。

艾爾沃德還發出警告，如果國際社會不能在60天內加強對伊波拉疫情應對，那麼將出現更多感染病例，還將有更多人死於伊波拉。

艾爾沃德稱，在過去4周中，全球每周都會新增約1000例伊波拉病例，這其中包含疑似和確診感染病例。他表示，世衛組織的目標是在兩個月內將這些病例中70%的感染者隔離，以逆轉疫情。

14日，世界衛生組織宣布，此輪伊波拉疫情死亡人數增至4447人，感染病例為8914例。
