武漢漢南區一農民在收割玉米時，竟然在一株待收的玉米稈上發現了一根『雙胞胎』玉米。而且這對『雙胞胎』玉米的兩個個體，竟然發育得差不多大。

根據中新網報導，發現『雙胞胎』玉米的是漢南區鄧南街南莊村廣來農副產品專業合作社的周才富。45歲的他，從10年前開始，除種植玉米，還從事玉米收購經營，但從未見過『雙胞胎』玉米。

昨(15)天上午，記者見到了這根稀罕的『雙胞胎』玉米，其根部向兩邊分裂出兩根玉米棒，長度約為14公分，而且兩根玉米的大小和形狀也都發育得差不多，就像一對連體雙胞胎。從外觀上看，『雙胞胎』玉米的顆粒飽滿，色澤金黃，發育及成熟度良好。

市高級農藝師程平說，玉米屬雌雄同株植物。玉米穗在分化階段，因受氣候及植物生長調節等外部非正常條件的影響，雌花可能會長出兩個或多個柱頭，同時接受雄花的花粉受精，從而形成『雙胞胎』或『多胞胎』玉米。植物學上，將其稱為之『返祖現象』。但這種現象在玉米這一物種中，是比較罕見的，而在辣椒、茄子、番茄等物種中卻較為常見，並不影響其食用效果。
