慶教宗到訪 菲對毛派叛軍停火1月

菲律賓三軍參謀總長卡塔潘(Gregorio Pio Catapang)今天(15日)表示，為慶祝耶誕節和羅馬天主教教宗方濟各(Francis)的到訪，菲律賓總統艾奎諾三世(Benigno Aquino)決定暫停對毛派游擊隊--新人民軍(New People's Army)的軍事掃蕩行動達一個月。

卡塔潘說，這項片面停火行動將於這個月18日午夜展開，直到明年1月19日、教宗結束菲律賓之旅當天午夜結束；卡塔潘表示，此舉展現了菲律賓政府追求和平的誠意。

這項停火將成為30年來歷時最長的一次停火行動。

菲律賓軍方發言人巴迪亞(Resty Padilla)表示，這項停火將不涵蓋對偏遠南部島嶼巴西蘭(Basilan)和霍洛(Jolo)的伊斯蘭叛軍阿布沙伊夫(Abu Sayyaf)的行動。這個團體的好戰分子經常綁架人質和撕票。

一般預料，以菲律賓南部民答那峨島礦區為主要根據地的新人民軍將會宣布，於耶誕節和新年期間實施短期停火。

過去45年來，共產主義叛軍--新人民軍持續戰鬥，企圖推翻政府。數十年來的衝突已造成4萬多人喪生，並且阻礙了資源豐富的鄉村地區經濟成長。

新人民軍游擊隊約有4,000人。

教宗方濟各預訂2015年1月15日抵達菲律賓，進行5天訪問。
